About Us
Founded on February 26, 1926, the Mount Dora Art League (MDAL) is the oldest organized group of artists in Central Florida and one of Florida’s longest-standing art organizations. For a century, the League has brought together artists and art enthusiasts to celebrate creativity, encourage artistic growth, and strengthen our local arts community.
The League’s story began with a small group of dedicated artists from Mount Dora and neighboring Eustis who believed that art should be shared with the community. In those early years, members displayed their paintings on the town’s tennis court fences, a humble beginning that reflected their passion for making art accessible to everyone.
As the League grew, so did its impact. Throughout the decades, MDAL has welcomed artists of every skill level and discipline, fostering an environment where creativity, education, and fellowship flourish. Today, the League embraces all forms of artistic expression, from traditional painting and sculpture to photography, mixed media, glass arts, pottery, digital art, and beyond.
MDAL offers members opportunities to learn through artist demonstrations, workshops, figure drawing sessions, plein air painting, open studio gatherings, exhibitions, and special events. Equally important, it provides a welcoming community where artists can exchange ideas, develop lasting friendships, and inspire one another.
As a proud partner of the Mount Dora Center for the Arts, the Mount Dora Art League continues its 100-year tradition of supporting artists while helping preserve Mount Dora’s rich artistic heritage. Whether you are an accomplished artist, just beginning your creative journey, or simply have a love for the arts, we invite you to become part of this remarkable legacy.
Together, we celebrate the past, support today’s artists, and inspire the next generation of creativity.
